Concord-Carlisle Football Can't Erase Deficit, Eliminated by Woburn
The visiting Tanners upended the top-ranked Patriots on Friday night.
Top-seeded Concord-Carlisle High School football team made a valiant comeback, but couldn't erase a 17-0 deficit against No. 5 Woburn on Friday night as the Patriots were eliminated from the postseason with a 17-14 loss in the Northwest Division 3 semifinals.
Woburn held the Patriots scoreless until the 5:41 mark of the fourth quarter when Concord-Carlisle pulled within 17-7. With 52 seconds left the locals struck again with pull within three points.
The Patriots recovered the ensuing onside kick and had the ball at midfield, but Woburn notched a game-sealing interception with 36 seconds left and top-seeded Concord-Carlisle saw its championship hopes come to an end on its home field.
Following the loss, the Patriots' ended their stellar campaign with a record of 7-2. The Tanners, meanwhile, advanced to the Northwest Division 3 championship game where they will take on Melrose next Friday night.
Concord-Carlisle's final game of the year will take place on Thanksgiving Day at 10 a.m. as they host Bedford.
