Flood Watch: Torrential Rain, T-Storms Possible

Watch is in effect for areas including Concord through this afternoon.

Is a hard rain gonna fall this afternoon in Lexington? Maybe.

There’s possibility enough that the National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for areas of eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including Concord. A flash flood watch means conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, a dangerous situation, the service says.

The watch comes with a warning that rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to affect the region today.

“Any showers and thunderstorms could produce one to two inches of rain in an hour or less,” the NWS says. “If several showers and thunderstorms move across the same area in a short period of time, there may be localized rainfall amounts of three inches of rain or more leading to flash flooding.”

The watch is in effect through 6 p.m.
