Concord's Harvill Named Navy Recruiter of the Year

The award recognizes community service, among other efforts.

After Concord’s Adrian Harvill enlisted in the Navy, he decided to make a career out of community service and giving back to others. Recognizing his service, the Navy has named Harvill the Navy Recruiting Command’s 2011 Officer Recruiter of the Year – Active.

As a recruiter, Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Harvill has made it his goal to open the opportunity of service to others that he has found so rewarding over the years. His work has taken him to Greece, Italy, Dubai, Turkey and Bahrain, among other locales.

Though LTJG Harvill’s award is an individual one, he acknowledges that it is one he could have never achieved without the support of others, including his junior Sailors.

“A leader’s success is always a direct reflection of his or her Sailors’ performance and this is an example of that, for sure,” said Harvill.

In addition to recruiting, LTJG Harvill has built a reputation of regularly taking part in community service. He has worked with the Special Olympics, as well as the International Medical Equipment Collaborative, the latter being a non-profit that provides materials to health care, agriculture and education related projects in impoverished nations.

Harvill’s reach extends beyond the military, however. He is quite active in local community groups including Relay for Life and Bicycles Battling Cancer and work has garnered him the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal on three separate occasions.

“The best part of the process,” said LTJG Harvill, “is when I have helped someone realize and power their potential with the Navy the same way I was able to realize my full potential.”
