Monday Essentials: Buddhism, Politics and Giving Back This Week in Concord

1. The Path of Compassion from a Buddhist Perspective: At 7 p.m., this Tuesday, Nov. 19, the Concord Art Association will host and event to benefit the young vulnerable children of Kampala, Uganda, who are supported by the Clover Foundation. The event features guest speaker Wendy Garling, a Tibetan Buddhist practitioner, who will share sutras, stories and poetry from early Buddhist literature and lead a discussion. Get the details here.
2. Public Meetings Preview: According to the town website, here's the week's lineup of public meetings:
- Monday, Nov. 18: The CCHS Building Committee Finance Subcommittee at 4 p.m., the Board of Selectmen at 6:30 p.m., a Board of Assessors Classification Hearing at 7 p.m. and the Community Preservation Committee at 7:30 p.m.
- Tuesday, Nov. 19: the Town Governance Study Committee at 8:15 a.m., the Conservation Restriction Stewardship Committee at 1 p.m., the Board of Health at 7 p.m. and the Planning Board at 7 p.m.
- Wednesday, Nov. 20: the CCHS Building Committee Site Based Subcommittee at 2:30 p.m., the CCHS Building Committee at 6 p.m., the Public Ceremonies & Celebrations Committee at 6 p.m., the Natural Resources Commission at 7 p.m. and the White Pond Avisory Committee at 7:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Nov. 21: the Historical Commission at 7 p.m., the Historic Districts Commission at 7 p.m., the Finance Committee at 7:30 p.m. and the Agricultural Committee at 7:30 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 22: the Concord Retirement Board at 8:30 a.m.
4. Green Party Presidential Candidate Jill Stein in Concord: At 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, the Assabet River Valley Chapter of the Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party will host former Green Party presidential hopeful Jill Stein to discuss a Global Climate Convergence at the Harvey Wheeler Community Center. 5. Give Back For Thanksgiving: From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Nov. 23, The Learning Experience will be accepting donations for the Lion's Club of Greater Boston, Shelteralliance.net, the Concord Food Pantry, Operations Overcoat and Toys for Tots at its location at 130 Baker Ave Ext.
