An inmate the the Northeastern Correctional Center walked away from his work release gig at Concord's Colonial Inn on May 14, and now faces up to another decade behind bars after his capture two hours later in West Concord.
The man who walked away from his minimum security work release gig washing dishes at the Colonial Inn yesterday now faces up to 10 more years in prison if convicted of escaping, reports the Boston Herald, citing the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. An hours-long ordeal that began when Freddie Deya, 25, fled from his work release during a routine "spot check," ended Tuesday afternoon when he was ordered held on $10,000 cash bail at his arraignment in Concord District Court following his apprehension and arrest after a two-hour manhunt around town. Though he's been caught after a manhunt across Concord, it remains a mystery this evening why Freddie Deya fled from his minimum security work release Tuesday morning in Concord Center. Jailed on an assault and battery charge, the 25-year-old Deya was just months away from his parole eligibility this August and his release date was scheduled for Aug. 25, 2014, according to the Department of Corrections. He was doing his time at the Northeastern Correctional Center -- a pre-release facility colloquilly known as the Concord Farm for the cows that graze on parts of the lawn unoccupied by solar panels -- and worked as a dishwasher at the posh Colonial Inn. Concord Police Chief Barry Neal says Freddie Deya, 25, of Leominster, was located in West Concord by the riverbed near MCI-Concord. Deya had been declared a “walkaway” from the Northeast Correctional Center, colloquially known as the Concord Farm, at 11:10 a.m.. The Department of Correction's Fugitive Apprehension Unit was notified at the time, as were local police, said a police press release. Monday, May 6 9:21 a.m. – A College Road resident called to report losing his wallet the previous night near the West Concord plaza. 11:40 .am. – Police were dispatched to the Treasurer’s Office at the Town House for a report of a suspicious person there. The Concord Police Department, in partnership with the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s (EOPSS) Highway Safety Division (HSD) and other local departments will take part in the 2013 national Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization from May 20 to June 2 and crack down on motorists who are not belted. “As we kick-off the busy summer driving season it’s important that everyone buckles up every time they go out, both day and night – no excuses,” said Chief Barry R. Sunday, May 5 12 a.m. – A Concord woman reported her husband left her on Route 2 west, past Crosby’s Mobil, after a verbal altercation in their vehicle.
