And the Best Place to Staycation Is ...

Our Best of Patch Readers' Choice winner.

If you’re looking to “get away” but don’t feel like going very far, the Alcott Orchard House is a great “destination,” according to our readers. The home where Louisa May Alcott famously penned “Little Women” in 1868 topped this week’s poll with a whopping 51 votes to win our most recent Best of Patch Readers’ Choice contest, for best place to staycation in or around Concord. Our readers showed their appreciation for local history, voting for Old North Bridge, Walden Pond and Minute Man National Historical Park as well. They have showings Saturday and Sunday at 2pm, Friday and …   more ›

Image Gallery: Wellesley Players Visit Alcott's Orchard House

Theater troupe performs Alcott at historic Orchard House.

A group of performers from the Wellesley Players visited the historic Orchard House recently for some scenes from — of course — Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women." The troupe was in town giving a sample of their upcoming production, Little Women, the Musical, which will run from Oct. 7-9 and 14-16 at Arsenal Center for the Arts black box theater in Watertown.   The players, featuring Jan Turnquist, entertained a local audience with their intimate performance, and photographer Frank Breen was on hand to capture all the fun.
