Buck Gives Blood, Inspires Bipartisan Support

Blood money in the best sense of the words.

The following announcement was provided by Alex Buck's campaign. Democratic State Senate Candidate Alex Buck and Republican Rotary Club member Leonard Doolan may sit on opposite sides of the political aisle, but they proved last week that they can agree on some important things. Buck, a state senate candidate running the 3rd Middlesex District Democratic Primary, approached Doolan and asked if he would donate to his campaign. Doolan thought it was important to support a local candidate and agreed. In their conversation, Doolan also mentioned that the Rotary Club was sponsoring an American Red Cross Blood Drive, and Buck donated blood.   "I saw this as a good way to help a great cause, while at the same time show how we can all come …

Red Cross Issues Emergency Call for Blood Donations

Fewer than anticipated donors in June means a shortage in available blood stores.

Are you at least 17 years old? Do you weigh 110 pounds or more? Healthy? The American Red Cross needs your help. The Red Cross has issued an emergency request for blood donations, stating in a press release that its "blood supply has reached emergency levels with 50,000 fewer donations than expected in June." The blood bank is stocked with about half the available blood it held this time last year. Red Cross officials speculate that an earlier-than-normal spring season could have led to fewer than typical blood donations as regular donors transitioned into summer activities early and failed to schedule their blood and platelet donations. An update on the status of Hurricane Irene and its impact on Concord.

Scattered rain has started to fall over much of New England, as Hurricane Irene continues to move northward. At 12 p.m. today, the storm was located approximately 510 miles southwest of Hartford according to the National Weather Service.
