Alan Lightman Reading and Auditions for the Concord Players Next Show

Lightman's new novel to be featured at a Thursday Author Series at the library, and the Concord Players hold auditions for their next show.

Good morning, and welcome to a brand new week! Did you remember to turn your clocks back yesterday? What did you do with your extra hour – something worthwhile, I hope? Before I forget, I’ve been meaning to tell you about the lunch Maureen and I had recently at Dabblers. The sandwiches were lovely, but the brownies were to die for. Honestly, they were the best brownies EVER. My favorite was the sea salt caramel – brownies with caramel oozing out of the middle – but the mint and raspberry ones were just as melt-in-your-mouth delicious. You don’t even have to pretend you’re there for the crafts: Just walk to the back of the store and survey the goods. I still have to get over there to check out the peanut butter one. OK, now to the real news…

About Town

Sharing the Road, and Sharing the Stage

Concord Youth Theatre introduces a new program for younger kids; plus a short reminder on road etiquette.

I’ve had a couple of requests from faithful readers to address the car/bike situation here in town, and since our roads and this fine weather do seem to invite both types of vehicles, I thought I would just take a minute to address the issue. The bottom line is: Both drivers and bikers are entitled to use the roads, but neither is allowed to impede traffic. The best I can do is urge respect on both sides, because in an altercation, someone will get hurt, and it probably won’t be the one inside the huge hunk of metal. Also, as the parent of a newly licensed driver, I would remind bicyclists that not every driver out there is totally confident about passing them, and may not have the experience to do it as well as they would like. Actually…

Ahoy, Mateys! The Theater Season Beckons

The Concord Players holds auditions for their first show of the season, and it’s time to buy your theater subscription.

The dog days of August aren’t anywhere near over, but some people have already started thinking about fall. I know, right?? The thing is, if you want to be a part of fall theater, you have to be thinking about it now, which is why I’m here to tell you about the Concord Players. First off, for all you thespians out there, it’s time to prep for auditions for their first show of the season, Mister Roberts. This comedy-drama won a Tony in 1948, and takes place aboard a ship during World War II. It has a great ensemble cast, with roles for nineteen men and one woman – yes you read that right. So guys, get out and audition; we need you! Here’s the skinny: You need to prepare a short (2- to 3-minute) monologue that shows your best stuff – it’s …

Acting Chops

Auditions for Little Women and a film series.

Good morning and welcome to Thursday! Before we get down to real business, I’d like to take a moment to wax rhapsodic about my sheets. Yes, my sheets. For a number of years now, I’ve had flannel sheets for the winter months – we like to keep the heat down at night – because it’s a little easier to slide into the warmer flannel than the cool cotton ones. But this year, I discovered fleece sheets, and I have to tell you, they are deliciously warm and lovely. Makes getting into bed on a cold winter night pure heaven. Only downside is it’s a little harder to get out of them in the morning. Even so, you really should check these out, particularly if, like me, you need some incentives to get through the winter months here in the northeast. Ok…
