Good morning and welcome to Wednesday. About a year ago, I dedicated a post about a bicycle chained to the bike rack for months at the Beede Swim & Fitness Center. I would pass this bike held hostage there on many rainy days before I finally snapped a few photos of it and described it here. Within two days, the rightful owner was found. Apparently, the mom had lent her bike to her her teenage son, who apparently forgot he had his mom’s bike with him when he left the Beede Center via another form of transportation, etc., etc., etc. I never got the full explanation, but was happy the mom was able to locate her bike. Jim Logan of Pura Vida h2o tells us about a new initiative at the Beede Swim Center aimed at reducing the number of plastic water bottles that get thrown away every day. In April 2010, the citizens of Concord, during Town Meeting, passed an article banning the distribution of drinking water in disposable water bottles. The vote focused national attention on the growing awareness of the environmental problems being caused by the more than 60,000,000 water bottles that are used and discarded daily in the U.S. The outright ban of plastic water bottles was narrowly defeated at this year’s Town Meeting.
