After deciding unlicensed cats are OK, but bottled water isn’t, Concord’s next interesting debate could be about body ink. According to Boston.com, Acton tattoo artist Kurt Brown will go before the Board of Health on May 15 seeking approval for himself as a licensed body art practitioner and for his new establishment above Dino’s in the newish building at the corner of Main and Cottage streets in West Concord. If approved, Brown’s tattoo business, The Gallery Tattoo Studio, would be the first of its kind in Concord since tattooing was legalized in Massachusetts and the town’s Board of Health drew up its regulations 10 years ago, Health Director Susan Rask told YourTown Concord. Concord has become the twenty-fifth community in the state to ban the sale of tobacco products in health care institutions. On Tuesday, Dec. 20, the Board of Health passed a regulation prohibiting health care institutions, such as pharmacies, hospitals, and health clinics, from selling tobacco. The new regulation will take effect on Feb. 14, 2012. The Board of Health will notify all establishments impacted by the regulation. West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis Detected in Massachusetts
In response to an announcement from the Massachusetts Department of Health and Human Services indicating West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis have been found in mosquitos from this region of the commonwealth, the Concord Board of Health issued an advisory for people to be on the lookout for symptoms of the diseases. "This news should serve as a warning that mosquitoes pose a health threat between now and early October," the advisory states. "Although the chances of acquiring mosquito-borne diseases such as WNV or EEE are remote, residents should be aware that these mosquito-borne viruses could cause fever, meningitis or encephalitis. Early symptoms of these diseases include fever, headache, stiff neck and muscle weakness." …
