A Concordian's Summer Home

Why home is the place to be during the summer.

I love Concord in the summer. It is a bit of folklore, promoted by Concord residents and widely believed throughout MetroWest, that everyone in Concord has another house; someplace lovely on a lake or ocean. And that Concordians spend late June to Labor Day in that other place; that place of serenity and calm. That place where we ordinary mortals can’t find them. A place where those people don’t have to bother with us. Nonsense, I say.   Concord is not only great in the summer, but it can be anything you want: hopping or serene. And the people I hang with are not only here, they are more visible. In the summer you have choices, inside or outside. True, people may go away for a couple weeks, maybe even a month, and that frees up parking …

Artist Goes Back to Her Roots

An artist's return and some Bruins love.

Well, here it is again, FRIDAY! The day we all love and cherish and begin dreaming about as soon as Sunday night. Happy Friday, and here’s hoping today is just the beginning of a great weekend. Bruins Raise Stanley Cup to Rafters First up in Patch-land today is yesterday’s rapid depletion of newspapers from our local coffee shops and newspaper vendors. The mile-high stacks of newspapers, featuring the Bruins Stanley Cup victory was huge news here in Concord...well, throughout all of New England. Everyone wanted a souvenir copy of the front page photo. Before 7 a.m. yesterday, one Concordian entered Cumberland Farms and purchased five copies each of the Globe and Herald. It is great to see sports fans support the print media, and of course…

Update: Keep the Home Fires Burning; Looking After the Dog

Open Burning Permits Jan. 15 marked the first day of open burning season in Concord. You may not have seen too many home fires burning, because the weather has not been the most cooperative. Good news, we have until May 1 to use the permits. More good news, this year we no longer have to stop by the Walden Street Fire Station to pick up a permit. We may do it online here.   Once you have your permit, (which takes all of a minute to apply for online,) you may burn wood and other natural debris on your property until May 1, provided you follow the guidelines set up by the Concord Fire Department. No worries if you are not able to fill it out online. Just stop by the Walden Street Fire Station and fill it out in person. While you’re there, …
