Taking Time for You

Tea at the Colonial Inn, spa services, and some art.

Good morning, people! It’s Monday, the first day of a brand-spanking-new week, full of possibility and promise of all things good. And, I have no doubt, a crazy long list of things that need to get done: Cookies that need baking, items that need wrapping, meals that need planning. It’s exhausting just thinking about it, and the week has just begun – what’s a body to do?? I’ll tell you: Take a breather and renew your energy. You know you want to, you know you need to. Just an hour or two to yourself, to recharge your batteries and take up the charge anew. But how do you squeeze that in, what with that very long to do list? I’ve got a few ideas up my sleeve. First up: Afternoon tea at the Colonial Inn. This is a lovely tradition started by…

About Town: Keeping Your Cool

Douse yourself with water, or head inside to avoid the heat.

Ah, summer has come on with a vengeance! These hot, sticky days have me envious of this week’s houseguest: an aquatic frog. He spends all day suspended in his little cube of cool water, limbs outstretched, floating in liquid peace. Every time I look at him, I want to be floating in water, too. However, since he got here, I’ve had the Michigan Rag running through my head – from that old Bugs Bunny episode with the frog that only sings and dances when no one’s looking. So far my aquatic friend has only floated: no songs or dances. But he’s still entertaining. And while it’s great to know that my guest will stay cool, the same can’t be said for the two-footed animals, so here’s a list of ways to keep cool here in Concord: Out of Doors I …

Patch Passport: Hidden Gem

Discover a Hidden Gem in Concord that you may have driven by and never known it existed. Or maybe you have not visited this interesting spot in years. So take a little trip with Patch...we’ll show you the way.

When looking at the Concord Art Association’s exterior at its Lexington Road location, it may be hard to picture the wonders that are found within. The building has the appearance of a regular house, white siding with a nondescript walkway leading to a traditional door, but items found within the building are extraordinary. The Concord Art Association regularly changes exhibits and welcomes the artists who contributed various works. Most recently, the space hosted a reception for artist Nick Miller. Miller’s exhibit, Tree House 360˚, a collection of works depicting natural views with a focus on tree houses, is currently on display. Take a look around inside and find a glimpse of previous exhibits that the Art Association has hosted by …

Update: Green Manifesto; More Ways to Keep Cool

More ways to stay cool in Concord.

The Thoreau Society’s Annual Gathering was just last weekend, but they aren’t resting on their laurels or taking a break from bringing Thoreau’s ideals forward. In fact, they have invited nature author David Gessner to read from his book, My Green Manifesto, tonight, Tuesday, at 7 pm. Whether you’re a Thoreau aficionado, or simply a fan of environmentalism, you’ll want to check this out, because the book chronicles Gessner’s journey down the Charles River with environmental planner Dan Driscoll, extolling the virtues of taking a polluted urban place and creating a wild and scenic space. Things that Henry David himself would be very proud of. Gessner is the real deal, having won the John Burroughs Award for Best Nature Essay of 2006, a …
