Concord Democrat Cory Atkins will keep the office she claimed more than a decade ago.
On a night filled with good news for Democrats across the board, state Rep. Cory Atkins could party like it was 1999, which is when she won the 14th Middlesex seat she'll hang onto after a challenge from Michael Benn, a Republican from her hometown of Concord. Reached by phone not long after Elizabeth Warren’s victory speech, Atkins spoke excitedly about a bout teamwork among Massachusetts Democrats leading up to Election Day. “What I’m proud of is all of the Democrats,” Atkins said, "Because we worked so hard on coordinating campaigns and it really worked to our advantage. We worked so hard for each other.” The 14th Middlesex District includes the towns of Concord and Carlisle, along with precincts 1, 2 and 6 in Acton and precincts 1 and …

State Rep. Cory Atkins, a Concord Democrat and Joe Kearns Goodwin's campaign chair, writes in support of Kearns Goodwin's campaign for state senate in the Third Middlesex District.
To the Editor, As your state representative, I have had privilege of working with Susan Fargo to represent our community at the State House, and I can tell you there is no better candidate to take her place than Joe Kearns Goodwin. Concord is the heart of the Third Middlesex District, and Joe’s home. He grew up steps from the Old North Bridge and understands, unlike no one else in the race, the rich history and natural landscape here and why we must fight to preserve it for generations to come. In 1999, he took a semester off from Harvard College to help me run my first campaign to become your State Representative. Two years later, Joe could have done nearly anything with his degree or gone anywhere with his career, but following the …

At an ice cream social to officially kick off Joe Kearns Goodwin's campaign for state senate in the 3rd Middlesex District, state Rep. Cory Atkins, D-Concord, will endorse Goodwin as her pick to replace retiring state Sen. Susan Fargo.
Joe Kearns Goodwin, a Democratic candidate for state Senate in the 3rd Middlesex District, is holding an official campaign kickoff/ice cream social this Saturday, May 12, at the home of state Rep. Cory Atkins, D-Concord. In addition to hosting the outdoor affair, Atkins is endorsing Goodwin for the seat long held by retiring state Sen. Susan Fargo, D-Lincoln. Atkins has known Goodwin for years. He grew up with her son, Dean, and took a semester off from his undergraduate studies at Harvard to run Atkins’ first successful campaign for state representative in 1999. “That’s only a small piece of it,” said Atkins, who is serving as Goodwin’s campaign chair in his first bid for elected office. “I’d be attracted to Joe anyway, as would a lot …

State Rep. Cory Atkins announces additional local aid.
The following announcement was issued by State Rep. Cory Atkins, D-Concord. State Rep. Cory Atkins, D-Concord, is pleased to announce that Concord is in line to receive $70,948 in additional local aid. Later this week, Gov. Deval Patrick is expected to sign a supplemental budget that will authorize the disbursement. The money is general government aid, which the town can put toward police, fire, road repairs, and other municipal services. During the annual state budget debate last spring, the legislature held back a portion of local aid money for fear that tax revenues would be insufficient to cover the amount. The Department of Revenue has certified that the state has received adequate tax revenue, and so now the money is being disbursed.

We need to elect someone who has been running for this seat with a message and a promise to work for the district while Senator Fargo has been ignoring us. That someone is Sandi Martinez. Sandi has lived her entire life in the district. She has raised a family here. She has run a small business here. Sandi is running for this seat with a message of what we need and what she will do for us when we…   more ›
