REPORTS: Concord Woman Facing OUI Charges After Hitting Police Cruiser

A Boxborough Police officer reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries in the accident, which occurred Friday, Feb. 1.

A Concord woman is reportedly facing charges of operating under the influence of liquor after she allegedly crashed into a Boxborough Police cruiser that was attempting to stop another vehicle Friday night. According to reports by Fox25 and Boston.com, the accident occurred around 11:45 p.m. near Exit 28 on I-495 north. BPD Officer Edward Pokornicki was reportedly attempting to stop a car when a Toyota Corolla driven by Mary Hayes, 52, of Concord, struck the back of his cruiser. The officer swerved to avoid crashing into the car he had pulled over and was forced to leave the roadway, his cruiser “settling against a large berm and some small trees on the median,” the Globe reported. State Commission Takes Aim at Drunk Driving

ABCC kicks off Operation Safe Holidays to coincide with national impaired driving crackdown.

The following announcement was submitted by the ABCC. State Treasurer Steven Grossman and the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC), in conjunction with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) national Impaired Driving Crackdown, will focus enforcement efforts at bars throughout the commonwealth during the 2012 holiday season. Concord PD Announces Crackdown on Impaired Drivers

The following announcement was provided by the Concord Police Department.

  The Concord Police Department last week announced it will join 128 other law enforcement agencies statewide in support of an intensive crackdown on impaired driving from Aug. 15 to Sept. 3 as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over mobilization, funded by a federal grant administered through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division.   Impaired driving is one of America’s most often committed and deadliest crimes. In 2010, 115 people died in impaired driving related crashes in the Commonwealth.  Moreover, there were an additional 2,750 impaired driving related personal injury and property damage crashes and almost 14,635 impaired driving arrests.  On average, there is one alcohol impaired …

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled For This Weekend

Don't drink and drive.

Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint this weekend in Middlesex County, which includes Concord. The checkpoint will be start Saturday, July 21 and end the next day. In line with standard practice, State Police are not releasing the location and times of the checkpoint.  "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways.  It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety," a State Police …
