Local team finishes last in week nine.
After surviving eight weeks on an ABC reality show, a local group of competitors is finally coming home. This week’s Expedition Impossible began with the Gypsies team once again taking a head start on the competition. While the local Cops might not have started in first, they were entering the ninth episode riding a wave of success from week eight. “It seems like the competition is getting tougher,” said James Vaglica of The Cops. “We need to represent police officers all over the country and we’re not gonna let them down.” A victory at stage nine would ensure a final four berth for any team not eliminated. Teams began the mission on rafts, but The Cops ran aground when their raft was washed up onto a rock. With water rushing into the boat…

The Expedition Impossible team was in Concord last night for a viewing party with family and friends.
There were no matching Ford Expeditions in the parking lot last night — but that's no spoiler since the winning team will not receive their $150,000 and new trucks until after the show completes its run. Officers Robert Robillard and James Vaglica of "The Cops," were surrounded by family and friends at Serafina Italian Ristorante in Concord Thursday night to watch their team compete on ABC's adventure reality show Expedition Impossible. The third teammate, Danielle Henderson, was not present. Neither Robillard of Concord, nor Vaglica of Billerica, who each arrived via Concord Pedicab, could comment on the final outcome of the show, but each agreed that the month they spent filming and competing in Morocco earlier this year was one of the …

The local officers survive another week.
Last week, The Cops team found itself gaining ground on the leaders of ABC’s Expedition Impossible, reaching ever closer to the grand prize at the end of the season. With eight teams left in the competition, the Waltham police officers, Lieutenant Robert Robillard of Concord, Sergeant James Vaglica of Billerica and Danielle Henderson of Marlborough, looked to gain further ground by crossing a river, among other challenges. The Cops crossed the body of water and headed into town, where they had to locate a specific type of rug. Entering this portion of the challenge, the team was in fourth place. “Our teamwork was right on for that whole challenge,” said Vaglica, “all working hard, all working together.” An exhilarating moment of the show …

A look back at the week’s most notable stories.
After years of dumping uranium into the ground on Main Street, former Concord company Nuclear Metals closed up shop in the 1980s. Years later, the site was deemed unsafe by the Environmental Protection Agency and finally, this past week, several groups agreed to demolish buildings that remain on site. The other big story this week was the excessive heat that residents contended with. Concord Light anticipated a peak energy demand on Thursday, while the Harvey Wheeler Center advertised itself as one that offered a cool environment. Still, residents found other ways to stay cool this week. On the farms this week, we looked at blueberry pancakes and cherry tomatoes, and we toured Saltbox. In other news, the Cops survived another week on …
