What Does Your Dad Mean to You?

As Father's Day approaches, consider honoring the men most influential in your life by sharing their stories in Local Voices on Concord Patch.

Father's Day is right around the corner, and the sale signs and circulars are everywhere promoting gifts like ties, electronics and other gadgets for Dad.  But this year Patch invites you to gift your father, stepfather, uncle, grandfather or any other man that has been influential in your life with a unique tribute: share his story. What are some of your fondest memories with Dad? What advice has he offered you that has helped you the most over the course of your life?  Why is he so special to you? Why does he deserve recognition?  (You can also take the opportunity to brag on your husband about what makes him an amazing father.) Tell us about your Dad and share photos through our free Local Voices blogging section.  Then you can surprise…

The Holidays Start Here

The library hosts their Holiday Book Sale, the Umbrella hosts their Winter Market, and the Health Survey is here.

Well, here we are, Thanksgiving behind us, and hurtling headlong into the holiday season. Gifts to buy, cookies and other goodies to bake – in our house, fudge is the goody of choice – lights to put up, dead trees to decorate. All the fun stuff that will fill our spare time over the next month. Where to start?? Good news is, we have the library’s annual Holiday Book Sale coming up at the end of this week! All year long, people drop off their used books for the library to sort and catalog; twice a year, the Friends of the Library take all those books and hold a sale, selling perfectly good books for a mere fraction of what you’d pay on Amazon. The bigger sale happens on the lawn in June, but their winter sale is just as fabulous, and is a…

Weekend Recap

I started with the Holiday Book Sale at the library on Friday. I volunteered to help out – really, the best way to be in the know is to volunteer – and it was an eye-opening experience. First off, there was a line of people waiting to get into the book sale before it even opened. These were serious shoppers, some with empty bags waiting to be filled with excellent quality used books. The Friends of the library, who were in charge of this event, did a …

Update: Good Theater; Life’s a Picnic

The Concord Players and Picnic in the Park.

Yes, I know that for most of us the summer has just started, what with the July 4th holiday and all, and some of us are still figuring out our summer plans. But for those of you who like to think ahead, you’ll be happy to know that the Concord Players have announced their 2011-2012 season, and that you can now buy that season subscription that will ensure you have fun theater to look forward to this fall, winter and spring. The Players will be starting their season with the recently-seen-in-Boston musical, "The Drowsy Chaperone", a show that spoofs the musicals of the 1920s. They liven up the winter with Tom Griffin’s "Amateurs", a psychological comedy that takes place on the opening night of a community theater show (hey, wait a minute; …
