VIDEO: 9/11 Widow Talks Peace and Justice

Loretta Filipov of Concord, who lost her husband Al in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, talks about dealing with that day and honoring her husband's legacy with the Al Filipov Peace and Justice Forum.

"I think the more we talk, and the more we learn — then maybe we'll be a better world." Loretta Filipov could be mad. She could be angry, and sad. And while she may, at times, feel pangs of those emotions well up inside, she is not consumed by them. Rather, she is consumed by a desire for a peaceful tomorrow. Loretta lost her husband Alexander on American Airlines Flight 11 on Sept. 11, 2001. It was a flight he regularly took for business trips, and he was supposed to return home a few days later, after which he and Loretta had plans to vacation in Hawaii for their 44th wedding anniversary. About Town

Update: Remembering Sept. 11/Teaching in China

Concord gears up for 9/11 remembrance.

Happy Monday! I sadly mention that today is the second to last Monday of August and that the carefree days of summer are winding down. Our college students are already in process of departing town — my son leaves this Wednesday — and school is coming upon us so quickly. I hope you get out there and enjoy these last few days of the season. Teaching in China For some Concordians, though, school just never ends, whether they are on the receiving or giving end of the educational process. Last week, I highlighted the CCHS Environmental Field Studies Group, led by biology teachers Priscilla Guiney and Nora Murphy, who guide a group of students interested in the preservation of natural resources.
