Atkins: State Restores Funding for CCHS Building Project

About four months after suspending all grant payments to the Concord-Carlisle School District, the MSBA is reportedly reinstating funding for the CCHS building project.

Editor's Note: Emails to the MSBA and CCHS Building Committee sent Wednesday, Oct. 24 had not been returned at the time of this posting. We'll update the story as additional information becomes available. The following information came from state Rep. Cory Atkins, D-Concord. At a meeting convened by state Rep. Cory Atkins, State Treasurer Steve Grossman announced that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) is reinstating funding for the Concord-Carlisle High School Building Project.  Those present at the meeting included State Treasurer Steve Grossman, Representative Cory Atkins, MSBA staff, Concord and Carlisle town officials, and several concerned citizens who had done extensive research on the building project.  On June 26, …

Mixed Sentiments for CCHS Building Committee at Public Forum

The CCHS Building Committee held a public forum last Wednesday night to explain how the project is “back on track” and listened to concerns from residents. There was much support from officials and the public mixed with disapproval and anger from others.

The CCHS Building Committee held a public forum in the CCHS auditorium last Wednesday, Aug. 22, to recap how things have been going since receiving a letter from the MSBA in late June, which threatened to cancel state funding for the new school. The letter was sent because the Massachusetts School Building Authority was concerned that the original scope of the project was not reflecting the latest design documents, which ballooned the project's budget over $20 million. Wednesday night's forum saw more than 100 Concord and Carlisle residents show up to voice either their continued support for the project and the CCHS Building Committee or detail their outrage over the project's progress. The Word from the Building Committee Several members …

CCHS Building Committee to Host Community Forum Wednesday at CCHS

What could be the first in a series of community forums is the Concord-Carlisle High School Building Committee's attempt to allay local concerns as it also seeks to get the project back on track for state funding.

The Concord-Carlisle High School Building Committee has agreed to host a community forum this Wednesday night at the CCHS auditorium. That move comes after a series of meetings at which residents raised communication as a chief area of concern around the project, which has also seen the Massachusetts School Building Authority suspend grant payments to the district as projections escalated over budget and beyond the approved scope. The building committee voted unanimously last week to host a forum at which residents can ask questions and make comments about the newest design plans for the approximately $92 million high school building before school officials submit those plans to the MSBA, which has not yet restored funding for the project…

CCHS Building Committee Update Says Project Moving Toward MSBA Specs

But many residents have unanswered questions.

The Concord-Carlisle High School Building Committee received updates from KV Associates and the Office of Michael Rosenfeld last week, but several questions remain unanswered as the district looks to get back in the MSBA’s good graces. In late June the Massachusetts School Building Authority notified the Concord-Carlisle Regional School District that it was suspending all grant payments for the high school building project due to changes in the project scope and budget. Last week, Brian Dakin, a project manager with KV, said based on their report to the MSBA on June 26—the same day the district was notified about the suspension—that value engineering had brought the project within $4 million of the approved budget, according to an estimate…

High School Committee: We Must Act on State Aid Now

Committee members discussed the limited window of opportunity provided by the MSBA.

After roughly a year of examining various plans for a new school, the Concord Carlisle High School Building Committee is ready to recommend one and they’re presenting their case to the state. Committee members urge, though, that the town must act now to procure proper funding. The committee first submitted preliminary plans to the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) in April before issuing a Preferred Schematic Report on Thursday, which recommends plan 14C. With an estimated 240,601 sq. ft., option 14C (pictured at right) includes a new base building with a new, separate and disconnected building that would house the alternative health and physical education wing, team rooms and other physical education spaces.  The base …
