How Does Emerson Hospital's ER Wait Time Stack Up?

Medicare database shows how hospitals across Boston—and the nation—compare for care. Hospitals, meanwhile, criticized the data as inaccurate.

Which area emergency room is the most efficient? Well, there are a couple of answers to that question, according to data released by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services. At Emerson Hospital in Concord, the average time patients spent in the emergency department before they were seen by a healthcare professional was 58 minutes, which is longer than the state and national averages of 40 and 30 minutes, and much longer than the wait at Mass. General, which is 10 minutes. Of those patients, the average time patients spent in the Emerson emergency department before being sent home was 136 minutes, compared to the state average of 152 minutes and the national average of 140 minutes.  Finally, the average time patients spent in the …

Do these times include parking and the walk into the ER? I can easily park at Emerson and walk in the door. At Mass General, just finding parking and walking into the hospital takes a painfully long time.   more ›
