More Snow Headed for Concord Tomorrow

Three to six inches of snowfall is expected this weekend.

  Following a small accumulation of snow overnight Thursday into Friday, the National Weather Service is expecting a more significant storm to make its way to New England during the day Saturday. Anywhere from one to six inches of snow could fall across much of New England, including Concord, according to a Hazardous Weather Outlook from the NWS. The snow is expected to fall between Saturday morning and Saturday evening. "There is a high probability of accumulating snow Saturday across the entire region. The greatest risk for heavy snowfall is over Connecticut, Rhode Island and Southeast Massachusetts, where three to six inches are possible," the Outlook states. Snow Expected Throughout Region Late Tonight

In what could be a significant snowfall, the National Weather Service is anticipating a bit of wintry weather late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

  The NWS has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the majority of the state, including Concord. "Widespread snow showers tonight are expected across Southern New England with snow accumulations of one or two inches likely," the outlook stated. "Given the recent cold weather, roads will become snow covered and slippery quickly. Snow showers may mix with rain along the south coast including Cape Cod and The Islands." The snowfall totals are hardly a threat compared to what was on the ground by this time last year, but tonight's storm could show the first real sign of winter since last week's dusting. Wind Advisory in Effect Through This Afternoon

Concord, and much of New England, is under a wind advisory today in anticipation of 20 to 25 MPH winds and possible 50 MPH gusts.

Keep an eye on tree limbs and power wires while out and about today. The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for all of southern New England, including Concord, that began at 4 a.m. this morning and will remain in effect until 4 p.m. this afternoon in anticipation of possible "damaging winds."  "The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a wind advisory ... for strong west to northwest winds," the advisory states. According to NWS there is a chance for southwest winds between 20 to 25 miles per hour with possible gusts as fast as 50 miles per hour today. Winter Weather Advisory in Effect

Snow and ice tonight could make the morning commute a little slippery.

  The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory which will be in effect through 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon. Accumulation in parts of eastern Massachusetts, including Concord, will be low, with only about 1 inch of snow expected, under an anticipated 1/10 of an inch of ice, posing a hazard for late night and early morning travelers. The Advisory states, "Difficult travel could develop for the morning commute due to slippery, untreated surfaces." "Accumulations are expected to be light," the Advisory reads. "Any snow or ice would make driving and walking difficult, but not impossible on untreated roadways … Motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop." State Police Warn Drivers of Black Ice as Temps Drop

The National Weather Service issued a flood and a hazardous weather outlook for Concord and the surrounding area Wednesday afternoon.

  So long, warm weather.  As temperatures in Concord and throughout the region began to drop to a more average level for the month of December on Wednesday, Massachusetts State Police issued a warning about driving in poor weather conditions. The warning comes after the National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook and a flood watch for most of the state, including Concord, on Wednesday.  The forecast here in Concord has shifted from the possibility of snow tomorrow to the likelihood of continued rain, according to NWS. "Rain will continue through this afternoon with additional areas of rain moving through tonight," the Flood Watch stated. Winter Storm Watch Upgraded to Storm Warning

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 6 p.m. tonight through 8 a.m. tomorrow.

Yesterday's Winter Storm Watch issued by the National Weather Service has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning, effective at 6 p.m. today. "A major winter storm will bring damaging heavy, wet snow to interior Southern New England late today and tonight," the advisory reads. The Winter Storm Warning will remain in effect until 8 a.m. tomorrow. Snow will fall the heaviest late tonight, with accumulation of 1 to 2 inches per hour. A total of 4 to 8 inches is expected. "Heavy snow will result in tree damage and scattered power outages," the NWS advisory states. "The damage could be quite extensive with the potential for an area of widespread power outages.
