Blue Dry Goods, the lone mens clothing store among the downtown retailers, is coming up on its fifth anniversary and plans to mark the occasion with a celebratory event and sale this Friday. The times were uncertain when Jeff Blue brought his style to Walden Street, but the shop seems to have made it through the economic downturn looking now worse for the wear. And says the reason he opened is the reason he survived. “I think it’s just responding to the customers and trying to fill a need,” said Blue, a Carlisle resident. A former marking executive for big-brand footwear and apparel companies, Blue and his wife Marty decided to open Blue Dry Goods in …

Taking shopping local to a whole ‘nother level.

The upcoming cash mob was organized by West Concord resident Polly Stadt and her daughter, Emma Hill, as a way to show their appreciation for the iconic local five-and-dime store. “It is a staple to our community and we want it to be there another 80 years,” Stadt wrote in an email to …

Fun activities to get you through the vacation week ahead.

Truck Day was last Saturday – that’s the day the equipment trucks leave Fenway Park for spring training in Florida – and meteorologists consider March 1 to be the beginning of spring. So we’ve almost made it through winter! Yes, I know it’s been amazingly mild, but still, I’m always happy to welcome that next season. For those of you with children in the public school system, next week is a vacation week. Meaning, of course, a vacation for the kids, not necessarily the parents. And if you’re not planning to head out of town, either to hit the slopes or bask in the sun, you might be looking for a few ways to keep those kids occupied, even…
