Weston Girls Soccer Blanks Concord-Carlisle, 2-0

Peters makes defensive play of the game as Duffey earns the shutout in goal.

Two of the best girls soccer teams in the Dual County League squared off in a real doozy yesterday at Proctor Field, and defending state title champion Weston was true to form in its awe-inspiring 2-0 victory over visiting Concord-Carlisle. Both teams are now 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the DCL Small Division. Weston's play was so crisp it showed its deep strength all over the field. Never was that more evident than when junior star defender Sarah Peters dashed toward her own goal-line, knocking the ball away just as it was about to cross at the 23:30 mark of the second half. Defensive Specialist

Senior co-captain Chris Walker-Jacks is the leader of the Patriots defense, and he'll have to get others up to speed if they are to make a run at three-straight Div. 2 state championships.

Chris Walker-Jacks has been tasked with filling many roles for the Concord-Carlisle High boys’ soccer team this year. In addition to co-captain and top defender, the third-year varsity Patriot will also serve as leader, mentor and teacher of a young defensive unit that has so far featured a rotating cast at goalkeeper. Walker-Jacks returned to the C-C team this year as a vital piece in an otherwise all-new defense for the Patriots. He was a key contributor for the 2010 team that won the MIAA Div. 2 state championship for the second straight year. This season, his role will be even more magnified if the Patriots are to make another late November run. “I think he takes a lot more responsibility [this year] because he knows he has to be big …

State Championship a 'Realistic Goal' for CCHS Girls Soccer

Final rosters to be completed next week.

Preseason soccer tryouts have been under way at Concord-Carlisle High School, for the freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams this week. Nancy Slocum, in her 14th year as girls varsity head coach, has been busy scoping out players and beginning to make cuts to prepare for the start of the 2011 season. “We’ve got over 70 kids trying out [for all three teams], which is a good turnout for us,” Slocum said. “Thirty-four freshmen, about 30 sophomores; some good talent in there. It’s making our job a tough one to make decisions about which team players belong on, and obviously with numbers like that you can’t retain everyone in the program. So some kids will have to find a different activity for the fall.” Last season, the Patriot girls team …
