Whether it’s on the baseball diamond, at the soccer field or during a flag football game at a local park, spring sports are underway around Concord, and we want to help share all the great moments and highlights with the community! Patch is looking for athletes, coaches, parents, booster club members and fans who are eager to show their team spirit on Concord Patch. News about any team – from youth t-ball to middle and high school sports, recreational teams, adult leagues and more – it’s all welcome. The club folklore goes something like this: "On July 4, 1879, the Concord Base Ball Club played a team from Boston on the Concord Grounds, located directly behind the train Depot on Thoreau Street. In April 2011, this program was resurrected." In its current form, the Concord Baseball Club appeals to men over the age of 45 who still haven't outgrown their love of the game. There are 22 such men on the current roster, and the Club is actively seeking new members. According to a press release provided by the Club, the group gathers on the diamond at Emerson Field one or two mornings a week from early April through end of October. After finishing as runner-up the last two years, Fenn School’s Varsity Soccer team took home the 2012 championship trophy in the New England Junior School Soccer Tournament. The prestigious 16-team tournament was held on Saturday under sunny skies at Eaglebrook School in Deerfield. In the opening game, defenseman Reid Shilling (Lincoln) scored the lone goal, lifting Fenn past Rumsey Hall of Connecticut, 1-0. Up next against Bement School from western Massachusetts, Fenn captain a goal from Josh Cabral (Tewksbury) proved to be the difference in another 1-0 win. The Fenn School opened its football season last Thursday, hosting rival Fay at Reynolds Field. After spotting Fay an 8-0 advantage, Fenn clawed back with tough running by Odom Sam of Lowell and Luke Newman of Concord. A crucial third down reception by tight end John Hart of Westford of set up the ensuing Fenn touchdown, with quarterback Mike Demsher, also of Westford, finding Zack Lisman of Sudbury from 20 yards out. From there, both teams played hard-nosed defense, but Fenn surrendering three more touchdowns, falling to Fay, 28-6. Fenn hosts Worcester Academy on Thursday. In varsity soccer, Fenn edged Hillside School, 4-3, on Thursday. Under rainy skis in Beverly on Friday, Fenn picked up another win, blanking Shore Country Day, 2-0. …

A look at this past week in Fenn School athletics.
The following announcement comes from Brenda Dupont on behalf of Fenn School athletics. Fenn's Varsity Hockey team got back on track last week, skating to two wins over tough opponents. Fenn hosted Shore in an evenly-matched contest on Wednesday. In the third period, Scott Correia (Wayland) backhanded a shot on the doorstep by the Shore netminder to break a scoreless deadlock. Later in the third, a scrum in front of the Shore net resulted in Will Robertson (Acton) getting a goal. Leo Saraceno (Acton) picked up the shutout in the 2-0 Fenn victory. Up against Fay on Friday in a fast and spirited game, Gavin Kennedy (Concord) got Fenn on the board in the first period, converting a feed from Cory Tibbets (Acton). Kennedy later connected …

Here's a look at what's happening in Fenn School athletics so far in 2012.
The following information was provided by Brenda Dupont on behalf of Fenn School athletics: Fenn's Varsity Hockey team is off to a strong start. Fenn skated to an impressive victory Wednesday at Dexter School in Newton, marking its fourth straight win. Fenn spotted Dexter a 1-0 lead, but Will Robertson (Acton) responded for Fenn in the closing minutes of the first period. Jake Goorno (Sudbury) scored two third-period goals en route to the 3-1 Fenn win. Leo Saraceno (Acton) was brilliant in goal. Hosting a chippy Hillside team on Friday, Fenn saw its four-game win streak come to a screeching halt. Registration for spring baseball and softball is open through Feb. 25.
The following information comes from Matthew Charde on behalf of Concord Carlisle Youth Baseball and Softball. Registration for the spring baseball and softball season is now open through Feb. 25. 25 for boys and girls ages 5-15. Preseason will start the week of April 9, with the regular spring season starting after spring break, the week of April 23. Season will run for six weeks, plus two weeks of playoffs for the older leagues. Visit CCYB.org to register your player online. Baseball players looking to prep for the season can sign up for one of CCHS Baseball Coach John Kelly's winter baseball clinics, running now through March. Photos from this weekend's soccer soiree that raised money for women's cancer research.
This weekend, soccer teams from around the region participated in the annual Kicks For Cancer event at Concord Carlisle Regional High School. The one-day competition raises funds for women's cancer research at the Dana Farber Institute. Photographer Frank Breen stopped by Kicks For Cancer and took these pictures.
