A winter storm warning remains in effect for Concord.
Although initial forecasts predicted mostly rain for the Boston area, Concord residents have seen snow falling but not necessarily accumulating thus far today. So, how much snow will Concord get? Forecasters have said that this will be a prolonged storm that will last throughout the day today and into tomorrow morning. When all is said and done, the Concord area can expect 3-6 inches, according to WHDH. In the WHDH Weather Blog, Meteorologist Jeremy Reiner says snow will be steady along and east of I-95. A blizzard watch issued and the latest forecasts see as much as two feet of snow falling on Concord.
Updated at 5:18 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Watch for Concord and surrounding areas from Friday night through Saturday morning. According to the watch, "The worst of the storm will be Friday night into Saturday morning," with snowfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour possible. "Travel may become nearly impossible with blowing and drifting snow." Several news outlets can agree that a minimum accumulation of 18 inches is headed this way, but the maximum accumulation numbers vary. Here's the deal: - WCVB is predicting 25.3 inches of snow in Boston by 11 a.m. Saturday. - WHDH is calling for 15-20 inches of snow throughout the area that includes Lexington. - The NWS is predicting 18-24 inches for the entire area. Massachusetts bracing for another storm with effects from Sandy still being felt.
First Sandy, and now a Nor'easter. Massachusetts is in store for more wild weather this week as a Nor'easter heads our way today and into Thursday morning. According to WHDH meteorologist Chris Lambert, the area can expect to see the storm hit between 2 and 4 p.m. "What I've noticed over the last few model runs is a track farther east," Lambert said on his blog. "If that's the case, our wind stays more out of the NNE rather than going east, and that means colder weather gets locked in. It also means that dew point levels stay low. That's important because with dew points running near 20 and actual air temperatures tomorrow afternoon running near 40-45, a process called evaporative cooling can occur which allows rain to turn to snow. The storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain late Wednesday into Thursday and bring wind gusts along the coast.
A little more than a week after 'superstorm' Sandy swept through Massachusetts, Concord residents may have to brace for another windy, rainy night on Wednesday. A nor'easter could blow into the area mid-week and the storm could drop 1 to 2 inches of rain from Wednesday into Thursday, according to WHDH meteorologist Jeremy Rainer. Rainer also wrote that coastal winds could gust between 40 and 60 miles per hour along the South Shore, Cape Cod and the islands, although winds "will be much lighter inland with this storm."
