From a sewing machine to a can of air, women have received all kinds of bad gifts.
Depending on your view, Valentine's Day is either a fun holiday to show someone how much you care about them, or a Hallmark holiday created to increase card sales. Whatever you think of the holiday, don't forget to give something to your loved ones. But be careful: you don't want your gift to end up on the receiver's "worst gift list." A story posted on iVillage includes "worst" gifts such as a sewing machine, tickets to a death metal concert and even a poinsettia. I even know someone who had to talk their friend out of buying a lamp for his sweetie for Valentine's Day. So on this Feb. 14, we want to know what was the worst gift you ever received on Valentine's Day? Tell us in the comments. What could have made it better?
A quick look at what you need to see, do and know on Feb. 14 in Concord.

Love is in the bear.
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. Don’t you just love this bear? Also a very happy birthday to Amy Gagne, a total sweetheart who was born on Valentine’s Day. Amy, Gloria Pinkham and I celebrated over a sinful slice of red velvet cake from Main Street Market & Cafe. Queen of Hearts Diid you know that Anita Tekle, our very own Town Clerk, officiated a marriage and four vow renewals this past Saturday? That’s right. For the second year in a row, Anita, who is also a Justice of the Peace, participated in the Colonial Inn’s Valentine’s Day Special of free wedding ceremonies on Feb. 11. The Inn donated $50 for each set of vows to a local charity of the couple’s choice, Gaining Ground, or Minuteman Arc. Anita said she officiated the marriage of “…

Valentine’s Day can be more than just a day about Hallmark cards and chocolates.
I started talking about Valentine’s Day with some friends recently and the looks I got could have wilted a rose. Turned up noses, snarky comments about husbands dropping the ball and a few shrugged shoulders were about all I got. I realize that we have all been bombarded with Hallmark and Ferrero Rocher chocolate commercials the past few weeks, but I am determined to turn this holiday from superficial to super fabulous, at least at my house. For starters I thought of my official answer for “Mom, what is Valentine’s Day anyway?” My answer, drum roll please, “It’s a day to celebrate Love (yes, Love with a capital L).” It doesn’t have to be a day filled with commercial influences but a day when we go the extra mile to remind those we love …
