German Student Transfixed by Transcendentalists
Student found an apartment in Concord during a tourist visit.
As a 16-year-old high school student, Jasmin Duecker left her native Cologne, Germany, for a year to study abroad. Jasmin arrived in the Tampa, Florida, area where she hoped to improve her English-speaking skills as an exchange student at Land O’Lakes High School. The move was more than she expected in the beginning. “It was quite a shock when I first came to Florida,” said Jasmin, now 25 and highly proficient in English. “I couldn’t handle all the consumerism and stuff. There was a cheerleader-state attitude.
