Winds are expected to pick up to at least 30 mph in the afternoon.
The National Weather Service is warning of the potential for brush fires in the area Thursday afternoon and night. Counties across Eastern and Central Massachusetts and Rhode Island are under the fire warning. Winds are expected to pick up to at least 30 mph in the afternoon as temperatures climb into the 70s or 80s here in Concord. The wind coupled with “low relative humidities” will cause the risk of fire, according to the NWS.

Several inches of snow could fall in Eastern Massachusetts from the winter storm.
A snow storm will roll into Eastern Massachusetts Monday afternoon and continue through Tuesday morning, dumping a few inches of snow in the area. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of Massachusetts beginning Monday afternoon -- though it was just a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Concord as of Sunday night. The heaviest snow will be along the coast of Massachusetts, where 4 to 8 inches of snow could fall, but the storm watch includes the cities of Boston and Cambridge. Further inland, snowfall is expected to between 1 to 3 inches, according to the forecast by WHDH Channel 7. Stay tuned to Patch for updates on the storm.

As a strong cold front moves through the area tonight, high wind gusts are expected.
Hold on to your hats -- high winds are making their way into the region this afternoon. The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory and hazardous weather outlook early this morning warning of strong winds that will be moving through Massachusetts later today. According to the alert, strong winds will to develop late this afternoon and into the overnight hours. Forcasters expect winds to be around 20-30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The winds could cause some minor damage as well as scattered power outages. The advisory will be in effect between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 6 a.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service warned that strong to severe thunderstorms will pass through the area on Monday afternoon and evening, and that later this week, the heat and humidity will rise to hazardous levels.
Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to pass through Burlington and the surrounding area this afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned on Monday. In a hazardous weather outlook statement, the NWS said the primary threat from any severe thunderstorm will be "strong to damaging straight line wind gusts." There's also a concern about isolated reports of large hail. An updated report issued at 3 p.m. this afternoon stated the thunderstorms may "not be as widespread" as initially thought, there is still a chance of strong, isolated storms. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for today that extends into tonight in anticipation of possibly thunderstorms. The outlook pertains to much of eastern Massachusetts, including Burlington, as well as northern Connecticut and Rhode Island. According to the NWS, "scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening," and "locally heavy rainfall and localized flooding will be the most likely threat with these storms." The NWS also states there is a low risk of a few storms becoming severe and producing damaging straight-line winds.
