Question of the Day: What Would You Like to See Replace the Walden Grille?

Tell us your thoughts in the comment section below.

On Tuesday, we announced the closure of the Walden Grille. Since then, we've seen an outpouring of sentiments from Concordians saddened by the news of the popular pub's closing. Now, however, comes the question of what to do with the empty space on Walden Street. The restaurant is for sale, but who knows what will ultimately occupy the space. So our question of the day is what would you like to see open in place of the Walden Grille? Would you prefer a neighborhood pub, an upscale bistro, or perhaps an ethnic restaurant? Is there something completely different you think Concord is lacking that could utilize the space, which has been occupied by a restaurant for the last quarter-century? Tell us what you'd like to see open in the Walden …

Did You Find Any Treasures Last Night?

Tell us about your finds in the comment section below.

Hot chocolate and cider, cookies and hors d'oeuvres, strolling carolers, and of course, shopping. Last evening was Concord's Holiday Shopping Night featuring sales and specials at dozens of local businesses. While we've been offering up some suggestions on great gifts for the people in your lives with the help of the Concord Indies, we want to hear about the treasures you've found on your own. Do You Give Your Kid's Teachers Gifts for the Holidays?

Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

The gift-giving season is officially here.  As you hit the shops this holiday season, we want to know if your children's teachers are on the shopping list.  We're wondering: is it OK, or do you feel compelled to give your kid's teachers gifts for the holidays? Is it seen as "sucking up" to the teacher if you do so? Are there rules against parent-teacher gift exchanges in schools, or do you have your own set of guidelines to follow when choosing a gift for a teacher? Let us know what you think about the whole in-school gift exchange in the comments section below.

Question of the Day: What's on Your Shopping/Wish List This Year?

Tell us in the comments section below.

While some wish lists addressed to Santa are filled with an assortment of coveted presents, others may just stress the desire for one big one. Every year there seems to be that one major gift everyone wants to see under the tree — and we want to know what that gift is this year. This past weekend saw the launch of the "Choose Concord Indies First" initiative, which promotes patronage of independently owned local businesses. As we saw this morning, Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, is the retail phenomenon known as "Black Friday," during which stores offer some of the biggest sales and discounts of the year. So the shopping season is just about to reach its apex, and we want to know what you're going after. Whether you're on the hunt …

Question of the Day: Do You Plan to Travel or Host on Thanksgiving?

What are your holiday plans? Tell us in the comments section below.

With a handful of other holidays and popular vacation weeks aside, Thanksgiving is often one of the most heavily traveled days of the year with people using all modes of transportation to make it home for that annual turkey dinner. With gas prices still in flux and people's discretionary income continuing to feel the pinch of a down economy, many people are switching up their plans and opting to host rather than travel. Maybe a potluck Thanksgiving has become a new tradition with everyone around the table contributing a dish instead of one person or family supplying all the food. One of the best aspects of Thanksgiving is gathering together with your loved ones, but changing times call for flexible plans, and we want to know what you're …

Question of the Day: What Are You Doing to Honor Veterans Today?

Tell us in the comments section below.

At the 11th hour of the 11th day, of the 11th month in 1918, major hostilities of WWI drew to a close. As President Woodrow Wilson commemorated the first Armistice Day in 1919 — changed to Veterans Day by Congress in 1954 — he summed up the atmosphere of the emotional day, saying: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations." While Veterans Day is but one day of the year, the sacrifices made by men and women of the armed forces …
