Five Things: 'Seeds of Change' at Thoreau Farm, Three Sporanos at CCM

A quick look at what you need to see, do and know on March 14 in Concord.

Reclaim the legacy of Seed Saving: At 7:30 p.m. tonight at Thoreau Farm, Brian Connolly, noted field botanist, author of a NOFA seed production guide and FEDCO seed saver, will talk about the how and why of saving locally adapted non-GMO seeds in the context of climate change. The program supports the work of the ground-breaking Concord Seed Lending Library and introduces seed saving as a basic part of growing our own food. 2. Concord Library premieres a new program for sharing seeds, and hosts another Fowler Friday for middle schoolers.

Hey, fun friends, welcome to Monday! For those of you who have today off in honor of Veterans Day, enjoy the lovely weather – it’s a little gift before easing back into the chill of autumn. And if you DON’T have today off, well, at least make time to take a break midday and get outside to bask in the sunshine. It’s all so fleeting. If you’ve been reading this column for any length of time, you’ve probably realized what a fan I am of our local library. In fact, I think of it more as a community center, what with all the great programs they offer, like origami for kids, or film nights.
