Comella's Cooking Up a Second Course in Concord

The casual Italian eatery will close for the summer as it relocates to Main Street to Walden.

Looks like Comella's is among the first wave of Concord residents to leave town for summer vacation.

It's not exactly clear when the homestyle Italian eatery will return, but when it does it will be in a new and larger location.

Comella's closed its 18-seat Walden Street spot yesterday, May 28, and will re-open in a few months, after building out a 33-seat restaurant at 33 Main St, the former home of Concord Hand Designs.

"We hope the locals will follow us to the new location, and we hope it will give us more exposure to tourists," said Harry Donovan, manager of the Concord store. "We're excited to have to opportunity for more seats and more space."

Along with more seats and more space comes the potential for more customers, more employees and maybe even more menu options.

The many Messes and famous $5 cheese pizzas that helped Comella's quickly become a popular option among many Concordians will remain menu staples in the new location. Gluten-free pizzas, new toppings and craft beer on tap could join them there, as well, Donovan said.

Comella's is targeting late August or September for re-opening on Main Street, but no firm date has been set, according to Donovan, who said the Concord staff will be picking up shifts at other Comella's locations until the local restaurant reopens.

And for those who were hoping to have Comella's cater a summertime event, Donovan said that will still be an option: The Belmont and Arlington locations will deliver orders of $150 or more while Concord is closed. You can find their information here
