Author Joe McKendry to speak at the Concord Free Public Library

Joe  McKendry, author of Beneath the Streets of Boston: Building America’s First Subway, will talk about his book at the Concord Free Public  Library, 129 Main Street, Concord on Wednesday, July 17 at 7 pm.  The program, planned for young people age 10 years and up as well as anyone interested in the history of Boston, will be about the territory beneath Boston's streets.  The author explores a century-old world when the country’s first subway was  designed . Using  artwork and through a fascinating and historically accurate narrative of Boston's first "Big Dig”, he relates how workers dug miles of  tunnels by hand using picks and shovels.
