Picnic In the Park

For well over 30 years the Town of Concord has celebrated our nation’s Independence Day with a day long event, Picnic In the Park.  All are invited to the Emerson Field (Everett Street in Concord) on July 4 for the festivities that include all day music, many kinds of food supplied by Concord  non-profit organizations and activities for all ages. The fun begins with the (weather permitting) tethered balloon rides in the Remax balloon starting at 10 am.  The popular decorated bicycle parade takes place at 11:30 (children gather at 11:15). Music will be provided by  Annalivia (11:45 – 1:00) playing lively Celtic tunes and music of Cape Breton,  bluegrass music by Southern Rail (1:30 – 3:00) and concert music by the Concord Band (3:15 – 4:30).  Activities for families will include field games (12:30 – 1:30),  balloon twisting (1:00 – 3:00), the popular Fire Department 911 House, the Police Department radar toss, a demonstration by Concord’s K-9 police officer, Officer Sylvia Toumayan and her dog Charik (1:00 –1:30), juggling by Peter Panic Juggler (2:00 – 3:00) and, for teens, a henna artist will make temporary tattoos.  In case of rain, the music will be moved indoors.  Picnic In the Park is made possible by donations from individuals known as Picnic Backers as well as corporate sponsors. Donations will be gratefully accepted and can be sent to Picnic In the Park, P.O. Box 1075, Concord MA 01742.  If you are interested in volunteering either before or during the event, please contact Frank Okurowski at frankok@comcast.net.  We need to add members  to our committee in order to continue bringing this fun July 4th activity to Concord.
