FBI Report: Violent Crime Nearly Doubles in Concord

Reports of violent crime have nearly doubled since 2010 in Concord.

Violent crime reported in Concord nearly doubled from 2010 to 2012, according to new statistics released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

According to the report, 13 violent crimes were reported in 2012, up from the 7 reported in 2010. Numbers for Concord were not included in the FBI’s 2011 report.

The FBI's annual Uniform Crime Report includes information submitted by local law enforcement agencies. The information is compiled and released to the public in the fall of the year that follows the reported year.

Violent crime, as defined by the report, includes murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault.

Although nearly double the 2010 total, the town's reported number of violent crimes puts Concord safely in the lower end among cities and towns in the Bay State. Not surprisingly, Boston tops the list with 5,266 violent crimes, while other cities Worcester, Springfield, Brockton and New Bedford round out the Top Five.

According to the statistics, no murders were reported in Concord in 2012. Other crimes included 2 forcible rapes, 1 robberies, 10 aggravated assaults, 20 burglaries and 149 instances of larceny or theft.
